Description and Properties
"AQUASTONE" Stone Varnish by Bayris protects mineral surfaces against UV radiation, weathering, deterioration and creates a distinctive wet stone effect. The product offers excellent adhesion to a wide range of substrates and deep penetration into the surface. The varnish does not cause allergic reactions or irritation and is free from strong odours and highly toxic substances. In liquid form, the varnish is milky white. Its environmental benefits are certified in accordance with the requirements of the international standard DSTU ISO 14024.
After drying, Bayris AQUASTONE forms a transparent, breathable, weather-resistant and flexible coating capable of repelling water. The varnish is resistant to detergents, dirt and stains. It helps prevent efflorescence, mould, fungi and moss growth. The coating enhances the natural texture of the surface, enriches and evens out colour, and provides a decorative multi-tonal sheen.
The VOC migration level complies with the requirements of Ukrainian sanitary legislation in accordance with MV 8.8.2.4.-097-02 and the Law of Ukraine "On Protection of Atmospheric Air" No. 2707-XII dated 16 October 1992.
Application
Bayris AQUASTONE Stone Varnish is designed for the decorative and protective finishing of natural and artificial stone surfaces in all types of buildings and structures exposed to weathering and mechanical stress. It is also suitable for application on timber, OSB, QSB, chipboard, fibreboard and mineral substrates (concrete, plaster, brick and tiles), as well as wallpaper and glass fibre wall coverings. Suitable for both interior and exterior use.
Surface Preparation
The substrate must be properly prepared before application. Surfaces should be sound, even, dry, visually clean and free from dust, old coatings and any contaminants. Previously unpainted absorbent mineral substrates should be primed with Bayris Acrylic Primer. Priming reduces varnish consumption, strengthens the substrate structure and evens out absorbency.
Application Method
Stir the varnish thoroughly before and during application until a uniform consistency is achieved. Apply at substrate and ambient temperatures between +12°C and +25°C and relative humidity between 50% and 70%.
If required, the first coat may be diluted with water to the desired viscosity, but by no more than 5%. Apply evenly in smooth, continuous strokes using a brush, roller or spray equipment. Apply two to three coats. The minimum interval between coats is 2–3 hours. Minor surface roughness may be removed with fine-grit sandpaper after the previous coat has completely dried. Clean all tools with water immediately after use.
The product can be tinted manually or by machine using water-based pigment pastes. Drying time is 2–3 hours per coat at an air temperature of (20±2)°C and relative humidity not exceeding 65%. The coating reaches its final wear resistance after one month. Coverage is approximately 8–10 m²/L per coat depending on the substrate type, application method and painting tools used.
