Description and Properties
PROM-DECOR Protective Acrylic Varnish by Bayris is a specialised product used to improve coating durability and enable wet cleaning after application of the BAYRIS “Interior Standard” and “Interior Pro” decorative coating systems. It is also intended as a decorative and protective finishing coat for prepared timber surfaces (panelling, tongue-and-groove boards, skirting boards), wood-based substrates (OSB, MDF, chipboard, fibreboard and plywood), timber constructions, water-dispersed coatings, wallpaper, concrete, plaster and brickwork. For interior use only. Not suitable for varnishing windows, doors, floors or surfaces exposed to intensive mechanical wear. When tinted, it can also be used as a decorative glaze finish.
The material provides excellent adhesion to varnished surfaces. In liquid form, the varnish is milky white. After drying, it forms a transparent, breathable, semi-matt and flexible film with water-repellent properties. Transparency may temporarily decrease when exposed to water but returns after drying. The varnish offers moderate resistance to water and household detergents. Clean only with neutral or mildly alkaline cleaning agents. It can be lightly sanded after drying. Due to the possibility of blocking (sticking), it should not be used on surfaces subjected to prolonged contact under pressure.
Its environmental benefits have been confirmed in accordance with the international standard DSTU ISO 14024. The product is free from strong odours and toxic substances.
Product and Surface Preparation
Before and during application, thoroughly stir the varnish until a uniform consistency is achieved.
The BAYRIS “Interior Standard” and “Interior Pro” decorative coating systems may be varnished after 48 hours from application. All other substrates must be properly prepared and should be fully cured, sanded, level, sound, degreased, visually clean, dry, free from dust, mould, fungi, old coatings and suitable for treatment. Previously untreated timber surfaces are recommended to be primed with BAYRIS “AQUAGRUNT” Ultra Bio-Protective Primer in one or two coats. Previously untreated mineral substrates are recommended to be primed with BAYRIS Acrylic Primer. Priming helps reduce varnish consumption, strengthen the substrate and equalise absorbency.
Application
Application should be carried out at substrate and ambient temperatures between +5°C and +30°C and relative humidity levels of 50–70%. If necessary, the varnish may be diluted with water for the first coat to achieve the desired viscosity, but by no more than 10%. Apply in thin, uniform coats using smooth continuous strokes along the surface with a brush, roller or spray equipment. Apply two to three coats in sequence. The minimum interval between coats is 2–3 hours. Minor surface roughness may be removed using fine-grit sandpaper after the applied coat has fully dried. Clean all tools with water immediately after completion of work.
