Purpose

Bioprotective Wood Impregnant "AQUAGRUNT" by Bayris is designed to protect timber against biological degradation, decay and mould. It prevents the growth of algae, lichens, mosses, mould fungi and blue stain fungi. It is also used for protection and prevention against wood-boring insects and pests that may damage timber (woodworm, bark beetles, furniture beetles, etc.). Suitable for the protection of timber elements in buildings (windows, doors, cladding, frames, log structures, etc.) and any other timber exposed to high service loads but without direct ground contact (rafters, supports, floors, fences, gazebos, garden furniture, posts, load-bearing timber structures, etc.). Suitable for domestic, professional and industrial use under Use Classes 1–3 in accordance with DSTU EN 335-1:2010.

Characteristics

Ready-to-use "Aquagrunt" Impregnant by Bayris is resistant to leaching during service life and provides long-term protection against a broad spectrum of biological attack. It does not alter the structure or colour of the timber, does not cause chemical degradation of cellulose in the surface layer, and does not form a polymer film or salt deposits.

It is used as a primer treatment before the application of decorative and protective coatings (paints, enamels, varnishes, impregnating treatments, wood stains, varnish stains, etc.).

Drying time
4–6 hours for each coat at a relative air humidity of 50–75%.

Coverage
150–250 ml/m² depending on the timber service environment: from 0.15 L/m² for interior use and exterior use under shelter; from 0.25 L/m² where the substrate is exposed to rainfall. Actual consumption may increase depending on the timber species, structure, application method, absorbency of the timber and the size of the treated surface.

Surface preparation
The substrate must be visually clean, free from dust, signs of biological activity, stains and decay damage, and suitable for treatment (mechanically clean if necessary). The moisture content of the timber must not exceed 25%.

Application

Application should be carried out at substrate and ambient temperatures between +5°C and +25°C and at a relative air humidity of 50–75%. Stir the impregnating treatment thoroughly before use.

Bioprotective Wood Impregnant "Aquagrunt" by TM Bayris should be applied evenly using a brush, scrubbing brush, roller or spray equipment. To ensure effective protection, apply 1–2 coats in accordance with the recommended coverage rates. Clean tools with water immediately after application. Rooms where timber has been treated with the impregnating treatment may be used after three days of intensive ventilation.

Please note! Any modification of the finished product composition, use of the product for purposes other than intended and/or failure to follow the manufacturer's instructions may significantly affect its performance characteristics. The suitability of the product for specific materials and/or compatibility with other materials must be determined by the user through trial application. The manufacturer shall not be liable for direct or indirect losses resulting from the use of the product, as it is unable to control all conditions of application.

FAQ
What is AQUAGRUNT timber primer and what is it used for?

"AQUAGRUNT" by Bayris is a water-based bio-protective timber primer (impregnation treatment) used before the application of paints, enamels, varnishes, woodcare glazes and other decorative and protective coatings. It penetrates deeply into the timber structure and provides long-lasting protection against rot, mould, blue stain, fungi, algae, moss and wood-destroying insects (woodworm, bark beetles and furniture beetles).

It is an essential base coat for professional timber protection.

What timber applications is AQUAGRUNT suitable for?

The product is designed for timber elements that are not in direct contact with the ground:

  • windows and doors

  • timber cladding and façade boards

  • timber frames and roof rafters

  • log structures

  • fences

  • gazebos

  • garden furniture

  • floors

  • supports and load-bearing structures

Suitable for residential, professional and industrial applications (Use Classes 1–3 in accordance with DSTU EN 335-1:2010).

What makes AQUAGRUNT different from standard wood preservatives?
  • Water-based formulation (without the strong odour of solvent-based products)

  • Ready to use

  • Will not leach out during service life

  • Does not alter the colour or structure of the timber

  • Does not form a film or leave salt deposits

  • Does not damage cellulose in the surface layer

  • Functions as a professional primer for paints and varnishes

It is more than just a wood preservative — it is a complete foundation for a long-lasting decorative coating system.

What pack sizes and coverage does AQUAGRUNT offer?

Available pack sizes: 1 L and 5 L.

Coverage depends on the service conditions:

  • from 0.15 L/m² — for interior applications and exterior applications under cover

  • from 0.25 L/m² — for structures exposed to weather conditions

Actual consumption may vary depending on the timber species, its absorbency and the method of application.

How should timber be prepared before priming?

The substrate should be:

  • dry (moisture content not exceeding 25%)

  • clean

  • free from dust

  • free from signs of rot and bacterial contamination

If necessary, the surface should be mechanically cleaned before application.

Can it be used without a topcoat?

No. "AQUAGRUNT" is a timber primer, not a finishing coating. For complete protection, it must be overcoated with a decorative and protective finish such as paint, wood stain, varnish, woodcare glaze or enamel.

Who is AQUAGRUNT TM "Bayris" best suited for?
  • Manufacturers of timber structures

  • Construction companies

  • Joinery workshops

  • Façade installation contractors

  • Private homeowners

It is a professional solution for anyone who wants timber to remain protected for years without biological deterioration.
