Bayris Alkyd Enamel is a high-strength coating with a service life of up to 7 years when applied in two coats over a properly primed surface. The product was developed and tested in Germany.

“UNIVERSAL” Enamel by TM “Bayris” is a professional, technologically advanced product that is easy to apply and offers excellent hiding power. Its range of bright and vivid colours satisfies even the most demanding users. The enamel forms a smooth, even, highly durable and high-gloss finish. It is resistant to water and detergents and protects surfaces from the effects of sunlight and rain.

Product and surface preparation

If required, the enamel may be diluted with “Lösungsmittel Bayris” solvent to a suitable working viscosity, but by no more than 10% by weight. Stir thoroughly before use.

Before painting, remove old paint coatings, rust, dirt, dust and grease. New metal surfaces must be degreased and primed. The substrate must be dry before application.

Application

Apply the enamel using a roller, brush or spray equipment. Drying time for each coat at +20°C and 55% relative humidity:

• Dust dry: 12 hours
• Fully dry: 24 hours

Drying time increases at lower temperatures and with higher product viscosity. Coverage per coat is 100–180 g/m².

Safety precautions

Flammable liquid and vapour. Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames and hot surfaces. No smoking.

Read the instructions and product labelling before use. Keep out of reach of children. Use only outdoors or in well-ventilated areas. May cause drowsiness or dizziness. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing.

FAQ
What is UNIVERSAL BAYRIS alkyd enamel?

UNIVERSAL BAYRIS is a high-gloss universal enamel for metal, timber and concrete surfaces. It forms a smooth, ultra-glossy and durable coating.
Service life is up to 7 years when applied in two coats over a properly primed surface.

Why is this enamel better than cheaper alternatives?

The main difference lies in the quality of the raw materials.

Low-cost enamels often:

  • fade quickly in sunlight;

  • wash away under rain exposure;

  • lose their gloss within 1–2 years;

  • require frequent repainting.

UNIVERSAL BAYRIS alkyd enamel:

  • contains high-quality fade-resistant pigments;

  • uses a premium-quality alkyd binder;

  • is resistant to water and cleaning agents;

  • retains its colour and gloss for years.

Its high-quality alkyd formulation delivers long-lasting performance without the need for annual repainting.

Why does a quality enamel save money over time?

At first glance, a low-cost enamel may seem like the more economical choice. In practice, however, the opposite is often true.

1. Longer Service Life

A high-quality alkyd enamel contains stable pigments and premium alkyd resins.
The coating:

  • does not fade in sunlight;

  • is resistant to rain exposure;

  • retains its gloss for years.

Service life is up to 7 years when applied in two coats over a properly primed surface.

Low-cost enamels often require repainting after only 1–2 seasons.

2. Lower Maintenance Costs

Repainting involves more than just buying paint. It also includes:

  • surface preparation;

  • tools and equipment;

  • labour and time;

  • additional thinners and consumable materials.

One high-quality coating system is significantly more economical than several low-cost repainting cycles.

3. Better Coverage

A premium enamel provides excellent hiding power and a uniform gloss finish.
Less material consumption means greater savings per square metre.

4. Colour Stability

Professional-grade pigments provide excellent UV resistance.
The colour remains vibrant and does not become dull over time.

5. European Quality Control

The product was developed and tested in Germany.
This ensures consistent formulation, reliable performance and compliance with European durability standards.

Conclusion

A low-cost enamel may offer a lower purchase price.
A high-quality enamel delivers a lower cost of ownership over many years.

That is why professional-grade products provide better long-term value and economy.

Is this enamel suitable for exterior use?

Yes. It is suitable for:

  • gates and wickets

  • metal structures

  • doors

  • pipes

  • tanks and reservoirs

  • façade elements

The coating is resistant to sunlight, rain and temperature fluctuations.

Can alkyd enamel be used for painting floors?

Yes, but only the red-brown and yellow-brown shades are recommended for floors, stairs and thresholds.
These colours provide the optimum level of wear resistance for floor traffic and mechanical loads.

What is the coverage rate of the enamel per m²?

Coverage rate: 100–180 g/m² per coat.

0.9 kg covers up to 10 m²
2.7 kg covers up to 30 m²

Actual consumption depends on the porosity of the surface and the application method.

How long does alkyd enamel take to dry?

At +20°C:

  • dust dry – 12 hours

  • fully dry – 24 hours

Drying times will increase at lower temperatures.

What should be used to thin alkyd enamel?

Dilution of up to 10% is permitted using the recommended thinner “Lösungsmittel Bayris”.

Quick note:
A thinner affects more than just viscosity. It plays an important role in dissolving the alkyd resin correctly, controlling evaporation rate and ensuring proper film formation. Using an unsuitable or low-quality thinner may result in loss of gloss, reduced adhesion, coating defects and a shorter service life of the enamel.
