Description and properties
“DEOS Weather-Shield” silicone facade paint for EPS and mineral wool by TM “Bayris” is a water-based silicone paint designed for the decorative and protective coating of facades on residential, commercial, public and industrial buildings, as well as for the renovation of existing paint coatings. It is especially recommended for external thermal insulation systems (ETICS) based on expanded polystyrene (EPS) and mineral wool. The paint can also be used in interiors with high operational demands, such as stairwells, corridors, kitchens and bathrooms. Suitable for application on prepared cement, gypsum, plasterboard and concrete substrates, as well as cement-lime, polymer and polymer-cement renders.
“DEOS Weather-Shield” by TM “Bayris” creates a decorative coating with Class 1 wet scrub resistance (washable) and Class 1 opacity at a coverage rate of 5 m²/l, according to EN 13300. Thanks to the silicone resin and hydrophobic additives, dust and dirt are naturally washed off the facade by rainfall. The finish is white, matt (gloss level G3 < 10 at 85°), fine-textured (particle size S1 – less than 100 μm), medium film thickness (E2 – less than 100 μm), highly vapour permeable (Class V1) and highly water-repellent (water permeability Class W3). The coating also contains a special film preservative that helps protect against algae, moss, mould and blue stain fungi.
Surface preparation
Surface preparation should be carried out in accordance with relevant building standards. The substrate must be dry (moisture content not exceeding 4%, or 1% for gypsum substrates), clean and free from dust, dirt and other contaminants. New cement and cement-lime surfaces should cure for at least 28 days before painting, concrete surfaces for 3 months, and thermal insulation systems for at least 72 hours.
Previously varnished or oil-/alkyd-painted surfaces should be sanded to create a key and then dusted. North-facing facades, shaded areas and surfaces affected by mould should be treated with “Bio Stop” TM Bayris according to the instructions. After cleaning and dust removal, the surface should be primed with “Profi Grunt” TM Bayris to strengthen the substrate and equalise absorbency. Areas not intended for painting should be protected with masking film.
Application
Before use, “DEOS Weather-Shield” paint should be thoroughly mixed with a low-speed mixer until a homogeneous consistency is achieved.
Apply the paint in two coats over a properly primed substrate. Depending on the substrate and application conditions (temperature, humidity, porosity and substrate type), the first coat may be diluted with up to 10% water. Dilution of the finishing coat is not recommended, as adding water reduces the coating’s performance characteristics. Apply using a brush, roller or spray equipment, including airless spraying.
Application should be carried out at substrate and ambient temperatures between +5°C and +30°C, avoiding direct sunlight, and at relative humidity not exceeding 80%. Do not apply during strong winds, rain or direct sunlight unless suitable protective screening is used. These conditions should be maintained for at least 3 days after application (5 days for highly saturated colours). Failure to follow these recommendations may reduce coating durability and lead to premature failure. The interval between coats is 1–4 hours depending on weather conditions.
To ensure colour consistency on large surfaces, painting should be carried out continuously using the “wet-on-wet” method, using paint from the same production batch or by mixing batches together. Any interruptions should be made at natural joints or corners where they will be least visible. The final appearance should only be assessed after the second coat has completely dried. Some bright and saturated colours (red, orange, yellow, green, etc.) may require an additional coat.
Wash tools with water immediately after use.
Important! Under normal conditions, the coating develops its full performance properties after 28 days. Intensive cleaning should therefore be avoided during this period. The painted surface may be cleaned with water or a mild soap solution using a soft sponge or cloth. Avoid hard-bristled brushes, as excessive scrubbing may create glossy areas on the matt finish.
The manufacturer guarantees that the paint meets the declared technical specifications. Any modification of the product composition, misuse of the product, or failure to follow the manufacturer's instructions may significantly affect performance. Suitability for specific substrates and compatibility with other materials should be verified through trial application. The manufacturer accepts no responsibility for direct or indirect damage resulting from conditions beyond its control.
Tinting
The paint can be tinted using the Bayris Color System or manually with colourants. Base A is used as a white paint and for tinting into light shades. Base C is intended exclusively for tinting into bright and saturated colours. The final colour develops after the paint has completely dried.
Tinted paint cannot be returned or exchanged.
